Rock Hounds? Any?

I inhereted alot of rocks and stones from my mother as well as some of the stuff you put into the tumbler to polish stones. But no working tumbler. She collected stones and rocks from all over the place from FL to Alaska and back during an extened vacation in a friends' RV. I collected some in texas, Ga and Mass, but have no idea what is in any of them.

Apparently, the rock and stone collecting bug has already hit my one year old granddaughter, as her mom keeps telling me that she picks up almost every rock she finds when they take her out for a walk each day.

This past summer we had alot of fun rockhounding in Utah...we hunted for topaz, wonderstone, geodes, and trilobites. My niece found a nice piece of opal. The trilobites were a pay dig site, but man did we find a lot of nice ones! The wonderstone was cool too...we just drove into the middle of nowhere, got out of the car, and chipped away at the rock face.

This was out towards the dugway proving grounds, and some of the emptiest country I have ever seen.

doesn't everyone love rocks?

I had a huge happy today because I found my slice of geode

I love rocks. My DH thinks I am a bit crazy. We drove from Arkansas to Arizona this summer. We detoured through Southern Colorado. Last year by Pagosa Springs I found some wonderful round-ish rocks in a creek bed that I brought home.

I collect rocks for my rock flower bed mostly. Does that count? I am just about to get it filled up. I live on a mountain out in the country and we are on a rock basically. Really rocky soil.....so bad rocky that you can't even plant a tree because you can't dig a hole!

I would love to go to a geode field someday.....that would be fun.

Arkansas has a huge variety of stones you can find. We have novaculite and quartz crystal around here. We also went to Crater of Diamonds once. I got a bucket full of neat jasper or agate, but didn't find diamonds. One guy there found a really big diamond that day. Hubby was so jealous.
