Rocking the Plymouths in the Bar

Welcome to BYC. With barred rocks you can sex at hatch by the spot on the head. I'm not certain but I think the male has a more defined spot.
Please, someone, correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks Janiedoe! We are hoping for a lot of hens of course.

Now look at the little ones in the photos - the problem here is that the hen was a Potch Koekoek, and the father a black Orpington. You will see from the images that some have the spot and some do not. The Potch Koekoek was bred in South Africa from a Black Australorp and White Leghorn, along with some Barred Plymouth Rock! This is going to be interesting indeed... :idunno:jumpy
I have never heard about the dot on the head with Barred Rocks they aren't a sex link type breed. These 3 all had dots on the head as chicks and all turned out to be female. Time will tell with your Barred Rocks.

Hello, thanks for a great introduction! I had to look up large-spotted genets, interesting looking animals, they must be challenging predators.

Thanks for joining us!
The Large-Spotted Genet can often be confused with the Small-Spotted Genet, the main difference being the white tipped tail of the latter compared to the black tipped tail of the large spotted species.

They are so cool looking! It's got the tail of a raccoon, the head of a cat, and the body of a leopard.
