Rodent in duck coop

Help! They are cleaning up the junkyard behind us and we have had a rat problem for the last couple weeks!!! My husband said he saw a small rat go under the ducks house last night. We put a rat trap over night but what does everyone do to keep rat out of the duck run?!

My ducks have killed 2 mice in their hut and a frog. But duck food = rodents. I plan to put some traps outside the hut at night. Take them away in the morning so the ducks do not get tangled in it. Interested to see what others do.

I do the same - I set snap traps under the coop at night and remove them in the morning before letting the ducks out. Have caught many rats with this method, but there are always more...

Oh, and I also move the feeder inside and out of reach from rats at night.

I make sure there is nothing appealing to a rat. No food left out at night, it's put up in rat proof galvanized garbage cans. And I have 1 dog and 2 feral cats as control points. No rats.

I place snap traps in a dogcrate infront of the duck coop so that raccoons, possums etc do not get hurt by a trap. I once caught 4 rats in the dogcrate in one night.

My muscovy drakes have killed a rat before but they seem to have got lazy now. My son's pekins killed a rat in their coop recently

I would be interested to see if my ducks would kill anything. We have been using the snap traps in the coop but no luck. Dumb question but how do the ducks kill the rat?

I keep the duck food in the garage and by night fall they don’t have any feed left. I wish we could have cats patrolling the land. But I have 4 dogs who aren’t cat friendly

That’s what we have been doing.. what type of bait do you use? We have used Peanut Butter. But no luck

I put the food bowl which is normally empty on top of their coop. I’m kinda interested to see if my ducks would kill anything
