Roo attacked me yesterday, scared me geez

I gave my Dorking roo (meanie one) to our neighbors, and when they were walking to the car, he was holding he son in one arm, and the roo upside down and said "Going to Grandmas!" Well it worked out well.
A way to save your roo would be keeping him in a crate for a while, but usually there's no hope when a roo gets mean..

I have two coops and two runs with different age chickens in them. I feed them the same way everyday. I go to the big girls pen and feed then to the little girls pen and feed them. Been doing this since the little girls were put outside about 3 months ago.
Well, I have a roo in each pen. My "baby" roo was 23 weeks yesterday and I went out at treat time just like always and he attacked me. I pushed him back and he came at me again about 5 times before I was able to get out of the run. I raised this little guy since he was 1 day old and have never had a bit of trouble from him. I hate that he scared me and am now nervous this morning to go out there and feed them.
I've read that you need to show him whose boss and I thought I had that taken care of. I don't think I reacted right to this attack as I pushed him back each time, but I was the one that left as he was still throwing himself at me. What do you think went wrong, was he just overly excited to get his treat and I wasn't fast enough? He's big and 2 of his girls have started laying. I don't want to be scared and I want my nice boy back. Any help would be great!!

I'm just coming up on a year of having chickens. My first rooster was a real meanie. I rehomed him responsibly because I can't kill anything yet. (I'm chicken, lol)

Now, after having a "nice" roo for a little while, he recently began lightly attacking my family and friends. No hard contact. Well, last weekend he nailed me hard on the back of my legs. I saw the warning signs: eyeing me, picking at the grass, slight foot movements, but chose to ignore him "my Bowie wouldn't attack me". After he attacked me he ran away.

Huh, well that hurt quite a bit. Now I watch him closely. My plan is to cage him up the next time he attacks any human. He can have solitary confinement and we'll try again. I'll push his head down, etc as well. This rooster I will try hard to change, but if he gets super aggressive: attacking repeatedly after being pushed back, etc. He's a goner. I don't spend money on feed for something that attacks me.

The topper on Bowie is that he isn't that great of a rooster. Most of the time his ladies are left unattended. A bit of a flake, really. But pretty!!!!

So, thread starter, live and learn, read up and do your best. I've heard there's plenty of roosters looking for a home!!!

You may get him to respect you, but that doesn't mean he'll respect other family members, or visitors to you place. You'll still have to watch him then. You especially don't want him to harm a child that may come to your home.

Oh, so sorry you have to do that. I don't think I could kill anything. However, chicken for food is the best way to do it, if you can handle that. At least they serve a good purpose.... I am too soft to be a farmer! Your rooster looks like the fighting kind! Best wishes and enjoy your coq au vin!

No, the one on my avatar is a Game Hatch and the sweetest Roo, he is a year old and very good. The one in "jail" and going to the pot is a Cuckoo Marans and he is 23 weeks. In jail he is still throwing himself and anything that goes by.
