Roo attacking

When I have a rooster come at me, I catch him, turn him on his back and rub his belly. He will just about go to sleep in my arms. After a few times, he will stop. I would also recomend trimming his spurs if there are small childen around. He will still scare them but is less likely to hurt the children. Remember, he finds you as a threat, that's why he challenges. After a few belly rubs, you are not a threat.

I have 2 small children, but I also have 2 hands. They like to follow me in the coop. I prefer to allow it when not so very many chickens are with me and especially when its mainly hens. If its just hens and only a few, I might let the children have their way around the coop, but with the rooster in there with us, I will have the children holding my hands and I will be watching. Sure the roosters are fine now, but it only takes one time of me not paying attention, to be sorry forever. In fact I am sorry, because it happened to my nephew 11 years ago, but I thought his mom would know to watch her baby......my bad. But now I take full responsibility. If anyone gets jumped, it will be me.
If I can't control a rooster, I can't see any reason that someone else would be able to, so I guess I would change his name to Gumbo, but I would think that if he stays in timeout and the kids keep away you could get your sex-links and replace him before you make his final arrangements.

Get you a water pistol are spray bottle filled it with water and alittle ammonia spray him in the face when he comes at you.

My Andalusian roo would stalk me until recently--- after getting some nice big welts around my knees from his flogging I got PO'd. Last time he tried it I just grabbed him, as many here suggest, and held him. I petted him and talked to him and after about 10 minutes put him down--- he kept his distance for awhile--- now after repeating this procedure several times I can walk around in the pen and in the coop and he usually goes the other way----but if he starts coming towards me I just lunge at him and he usually runs as far away as possible.

I don't have small kids around here---yet (my kids are grown---one is married and the other engaged) so I don't have to worry about anyone but myself--- otherwise I don't know what I would do--- probably make him into Sunday dinner!
