Hi everyone, I am replacing my roo that my dog killed
sad.png

I am looking for a friendly, gentle roo- to people and hens- i have been reading the boards and seems these are the breeds that lean that way?

sussex, Favorolle, Plymouth Rock, Brahma, cochin, araucana, orpington

I love my LF dark brahma roo. He is very respectful of my SO and myself. Strangers make him a little nervous, but I think that's because we live in a very remote area and rarely have visitors. He doesn't try to attack strangers, he just acts real jittery and upset. He's strongly protective of my hens, but he is very large. That's something to keep in mind depending on the size of your hens.

Well, my girls are a RI, 2 BO and a BA- do you think they will be equal enough in size?

If your hens weigh 6 to 8 lbs. in weight or heavier they should be fine.
ETA: Keep in mind that grown hens can give a young cockerel they're not used to a bad time. He has to earn his respect from the hens.
