I have someone interested in him, I wanted to ask $5 to recoup the purchase price (3.79) and the feed I’ve given him. Is that okay or should I just give him to the person for free?

You can always ask them. Sometimes roosters can be difficult to re home so it might be best to give him away, but that's not to say if someone is really interested they might be willing to pay $5 especially if he's old enough to possibly go straight to the coop.

Personally we gave our extra rooster away even though he was a heritage line that I could have tried to sell. But i was more interested in rehoming him then cost of raising or making money on him
