Roos?? Hens?? - These EE's have me perplexed!!! NEW PICS ADDED!

#1 looks like a pullet, I agree that the others are most likely roos...

Don't worry, it could be worse: I had 25 roosters out of a batch of 30 chicks (EE's and Wyandottes). That's 17% pullets

But your EE cockerels are really beautiful birds, I would buy them off of you in a heartbeat!

I have to go with the crowd. #1 pullet and a lot of cockerels. Just too much red comb. My EEs (whopping lifetime sample size of TWO!) didn't show ANY red until they were more like 18 weeks.

One started squatting a week ago at almost 23 weeks. No eggs yet. One XL blue-green egg this morning!!
I expect the red comb (and growth) will vary by how quickly a specific bird matures but red at 9 weeks? Ouch.

I feel so bad for you! If it helps at all...I let a broody hen hatch two EE eggs, they were BOTH roos. 100%! not that I had a lot to work with but sheesh. The next batch of 7 is 3/4 one is iffy so I am not sure if it is 3 hens/4 roos or 3 roos/4 hens. Good luck!

Wow! Those are such gorgeous colors!!!!! I may have missed it, but are these crosses of EE/BLRW? Because I would LOVE to have some birds that look like those...

The unfortunate situation is that I was raising these chicks in a co-op fashion. So we were thinking out of 29 chicks, we'd probably get 12+ hens. 2 of us can't keep roos, and one is only taking one.

I have homes for 4 roos (so far), and we figured that it wouldn't be too hard to re home the rest. Ack! I so wish I lived on acreage so I could keep a rooster or two!

Basel - we definitely both got the short end of chicken math!!!

MySunWolf - If I had any idea way to get the roos across the Canadian border to mail them, I would in a heartbeat! I live 6 hours north of the border though :(

Panth - I think it's likely that they are a cross with BLRW - I was ordering some blue egg layers and she said that they were blue wheaten ameraucanas. So BW Ameraucana hens crossed with? Hmmmmmm... She keeps BLRW, a bunch of different orps and sussexs, and BCM. Same thing, if I could get them to Indiana, I'd mail them off!

So as far as the red goes on their body. I can see the ones that have splotchy dark wing patches - but some have a more universal body over all red colour and a single comb... grasping at straws?

You guys are killing me! Lol! What's wrong with Canadians. Darn it BCers - take my roos!!

OK - a closer look for comparison - there are most that I am convinced are roos. There are a few that I'm still wavering on -

Here is my convinced roo comb for comparison, This lucky guy actually has a home! Large, red - no doubt in my mind

Now here is my "not so sure" - I'm really, really hoping that I'm right because these guys were going to go in a pair: This is a more intensive #6 from my original post. Smaller, single comb, not pink (yet...)

Here is more of my not so sures: Pale and more of a single comb than the above confirmed roo:

And here are my confirmed hens so far :

"Nellie Olsen"

"Little One"

"Anne Shirley"

I would say the first questionable one you posted could possibly be a girl. The red on her is in a lacing pattern, which would be consistent with having BLRW in it. Rooster red is homogenous and splotchy, not patterned like that. I'd venture to say girl with that one :)

The other one is similar. Red lacing and a very feminine comb for 9 weeks and a single comb. My single comb cockerels reveal themselves around 5 weeks of age. So I'd say girl for that one too.
