Roost in brooder (pic heavy!)

I didn't have a way to put my roosts off the floor either in my brooder...i just have some small logs that we didn't burn in the fire and just lay them in the brooder and they climb up on those and "roost." Not the greatest, but they do like it!

I think it's a great idea, and gives them something else to climb on and launch from.

Great brooder and roost! I love that sweet chick in the 2nd photo! ADORABLE!

I had a plastic bin for a brooder also and I got some large dowels, 1" or so. I cut them to size so they would fit across the bin (the short way) and then drilled a small hole in each side of the bin wall. Used a screw and washer and went through the bin and into the end of the dowel. I put them at 2 heights and 6 inches or so apart and the girls loved them. It was my first batch of chicks so I have no idea if that is something that I was supposed to do or not but it worked for me. Just an idea.

I have one week old chicks and I just pushed each end of a small branch through the side of a dixie cup. I folded up a bit of cloth and shoved it up firmly into each dixie cup to give the ends some weight. So far they are enjoying it, although as they get bigger I bet they'll be knocking it around a bit and I'll have to come up with something different.
