Rooster acting strange

It was -45 wind chill for 2 days. Have a shed that the chickens were in but this guy has frostbite and extremely swollen waddle and ears?? I saw him yesterday struggle but it was finally 35 degrees so I was watching him. This morning he had blood all down the front so I brought him in and gave home a bath. Separated in a heated garage And he is weak. He is doing this strange head thing and I don’t know what to do. (Steps back leans head down and swipes it back and forth or puts his head up like he is choking) he is eating and drinking.

The cold hit here, too, and my roosters each got a hit of frostbite and hypothermia. It can affect their entire system, causing slowdown in digestion, among other things. I corrected this with a probiotic for one of them.

First, give your roo sugar and a pinch of salt and baking soda in his water. This will counter the effects of hypothermia. Give him cooked oatmeal or rice with buttermilk or yogurt or keifer as a sort of "gravy" over it. This can help with his digestive issues and get some needed calories into him.

You can also give him a probitotic tablet for a few days to beef up the good microbes in his intestines.

You need to check his crop function. At bedtime, take away food and water. Tomorrow morning feel his crop. It should be flat and empty. If it's full, then he has slow crop and may need to be treated for a crop issue.
