Rooster and 2yr old son

That's Romance....
....your tiny son being traumatized or seriously injured is Reality.
Pen up that bird asap!
Agree, putting him in a pen until you can get rid of him is best for your son. If you really feel bad about it, you can let him out to free range for an hour or two in the evening and keep your son inside.

So I have put him in the small coop/run that we bought when we first put everyone outside. It's big enough for him to walk around and has a small coop but it's big enough for him to take shelter and sleep in.

I removed him from the flock about two hours ago. One of my girls is going nuts. They can still see him. I put a tarp up around his space to limit how much they can see him, but she's still frantic and it's making 2 of my other pullets stressed out too. Should I move his pen? How long do you think this will go on for?

Chickens hate change. They will get over it. If you feel it's best to move the coop, it won't hurt anything, but I don't think it will change your pullet's behavior. She'll get over it and life will go on.

Thank you.

Do you think I should keep them in their coop for a few days while they figure out the new pecking order?

I agree! I was so upset with that purchase, but not anymore! I'm also very glad I kept it. I will be hanging onto it even after this is over in case someone gets ill, hurt, or for any other reason I may need to separate members of the flock.
