Hi My next door neighbor has chickens
They are a mixed breed about 19 I think
Anyway he has one rooster leghorn I think and he seems lovely if you keep your distance
The rooster has suddenly started attacking a hen
The hen is all bloodied up now
My next door neighbor will not separate any of his chickens if a chicken kills one another he chucks them over the fence
The rooster has done this before but what would the reason be
I have never experienced this behavior in my flock of pekins
The hen he is attacking is a isa brown a big one too
The chickens have never been held and he loves them but wont treat for any illness
Is their something I can throw over the fence at the hen to deter the roo from attacking her
The roo will kill her like he does sometimes.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Any chance of voicing your concerns to your neighbor? He can't love them too much if he allows them to be injured and doesn't bother treating them.

Ive spoken to him and said the chicken maybe sick and the roo maybe protecting his flock
He has the chickens out in his back yard and I seen the roo run and attack the hen
The hen cant open an eye and comb all bloodied
The hen took a submissive pose so it isnt a dominance thing I dont think
He said he may try to catch the roo tonight and separate for the night
I dont think this will help much though
I was hoping to try and find out why a rooster would attack a hen so viscously so it would end
Thanks I will tell him to put vicks on the hen
Hopefully he will do something it isnt nice to hear the squeals
