Rooster breaking up fight between hens?

Good idea. I will look, however my hopes aren’t high given that the three county area that i live in all restrict roosters for most chicken owners. Wish us luck 🤞🏻
I’m hoping to be able to bribe my neighbors with eggs lol. Once all the ladies are paying egg rent, i should end up with a dozen or so every week if all goes well.
Do you think that your neighbors would let you fly under the radar with your roo?

I am hoping so. We are currently displaced from the house to to a small fire and a lot of smoke damage so i don’t really know how noisy he is but when i’m there i only hear him crow while i am physically within the chicken yard and when i am out of sight, he is pretty silent, or at least seems that way. after a few crows, he quiets down. Pet sitter also says that she doesn’t hear him much at all and she waits until well after sunrise to let them out of their coop since we dont have automatic doors yet. I probably sacrifice a bit on the production side of things, but that’s a sacrifice i am willing to make to be able to keep russel. I think as long as i can confine his “concerts” to normal daylight hours, they may just go along with it.
Here are a couple of pics i took today. Maybe i’m biased but i think hes very handsome. Of course, i suppose every jewish mother thinks their son is the total package! 😂
when i was there today, i gave them fresh peppers from my “garden” and meal worms by the handful and he watched and waited from the periphery until the hens had helped themselves before partaking in the goodies. he didn’t rush in like the hens, he just kind of sauntered up like he owned the damn joint! at least that’s what it looked like to me.

We've got a Cream Legbar rooster too and I have seen him break up a fight between 2 hens, but he is not eager to do this. Sometimes he just stands there wondering what he should do. Maybe ours only breaks up fights when it really gets out of hand. Have you got a picture of him now? Cream Legbars make beautiful roosters.

This is Russel Crowe today…

I think hes very handsome. And with his no crow collar, hes muted so that helps things. I introduced a new hen today and he watched to make sure she wasn’t being harassed but he did step in when he thought things got out of hand. I could tell he was paying attention to his ladies, it was funny watching him decide what to do. So far, hes proved himself a very good boy. Perhaps i should have named him “colt .45” cause hes a peacemaker but he packs a punch when need be lol.

My rooster shows favoritism over the younger hens he was raised with and has never been accepted by 4 of my oldest hens I had years before adding him (only 3 of them joined his flock )I've had to intervene so many times that he hates me now.I'm going to have to cull him.

Rooster favoring his sisters is normal. Some older dominant hens might never accept him, but it's not the rooster's fault, it's how chicken society work.
Humans should not intervene unless there is blood involved, and if there is, we need to do what's best for the flock, sometimes it's the old dominant hen that should go.

I added 2 cockerels in hopes of raising one and giving the other one away. I only considered keeping both because they got along but they started tag teaming the hens and overmating them. 2 hens died before a guy came to get one of the roosters. One hen was found dead with her neck dangling off the side of the poop board in the mating position (under the roosting bars) The other one apparently had tried to get away (different day) and took flight and accidentally impaled herself on a grounding rod.I called the guy back and he came straight and got one them.My barred flock has hated him ever since

So far, the dominant hen seems to have accepted him or at least his presence. She was here before he was so i was surprised but she’s fallen in line. I can’t say that she lets him mount her but she’s been more subdued since he has come of age. Also, hes awkward and literally falls off before actual insemination occurs i am sure HAHA. It’s like watching a 40 year old virgin in action.
I do love him so much though. Hes so far been the total package. Handsome, quietish, peace keeper and blue egg gene carrier. Haha.
But he does (as does the younger cockerel) tend to stick with his brood mates.
