I was out feeding the chickens and the rooster was walking around opening his mouth to crow, but nothing came out. Finally, he sqwaucked out a feeble crow. He seems fine otherwise. Any ideas on whats going on?

I've had this happen when one has had a slight respiratory problem. It always resolved in a few weeks. As long as you aren't seeing any other symptoms I wouldn't worry, but keep an eye out for nasal discharge or sneezing. Make sure he's eating and drinking fine. If he worsens than you may need to treat, or take him to a vet.

Could be any number of things. You may need to look down his throat to see if he has any growths in there. Check if his breathing sounds labored or congested. Is he eating and drinking normally? Could be anything from an air sac infection to dry throat, or swallowed something and it got stuck. Maybe he can't catch his breath if it's cold outside. May resolve on its own.

He is eating and drinking normally as far as I can tell. I will have to look at his throat tonight after dark. Hes a good boy. Never tried to flog me. Dont see any discharge or hear sneezing. I'll keep an eye on him next couple days.

Vet came to chevk my rooster and he has an upper respitory. Yesterday when I checked him I didnt hear any wheezing, but today when holding him you could hear it. He got an antiobiotic shot tonight and gets another one Thursday. Keeping fingers crossed hes going to be ok.

Tylan, oxytetracycline, denegard, and Baytril are antibiotics that can treat mycoplasma or MG. Do you know what your vet gave?

Nope. I have the second syringe to poke him with this Thursday. He told me what it was but I forgot. He said at least I dont have to worry about egg withdrawal. :D

Rooster doing much better. Will give him his second shot tomorrow. Hope he keeps improving.

Good to know. If your syringe package is labeled, it would be good if you could remember what the name of the antibiotic is. Thanks for the update.
