Can anyone give me a suggestion as to how to control the crowing at night of my two 6 month old Americana roosters. We were supposed to have 3 hens and two turned into beautiful roosters with very big mouths. They go to sleep at dusk and start their crowing around 10 to 11pm and continue through the night. They also crow every time one of us goes into the back yard. I hate to get rid of them because they are so pretty. They do not fight with each other and the hen hangs with them since they were raised together. We have had them since they were a few days old.

do you have a window in your coop that light flashes into, or a train that go's by,a busy road, something is disturbing your birds, that is why they are crowing at night

Thanks for the input. I do have a motion dector light in the back and maybe the other night creatures are making it come on. I havn't noticed but will get up and check that out. They are about 100 feet from the road but traffice is light to nill at those hours.

Something is disturbing them... noise, lights, another animal... it could be a bunch of different things. Try covering the coop window and see if that helps (that would be the easy solution!).

We have owls also. There is a nest nearby and they talk back and forth. My coop is not enclosed on 2 sides because we are in Florida and it gets pretty hot. I can get rid of the light if thats my problem but the owls were here first so maybe my pretty roosters will have to go. I don't want to raise chicks anyhow. Another question is all my other hens have not started laying yet, I have 3 Bard Rock, 3 Red Star and 3 that are supposed to be leghorns but they small for a leghorn so I'm not sure what they are. All are right at 6 months old. We feed them layer crumbles and fresh greens for snack.

that could be because of the time of the year, late hatched chick start laying a bit later, plus they need a min of 12-13 hours of light to lay

Has your weather changed.....is it getting warmer?
Since your boys are about 6 months, the hormones are kickin' in and that could be part of it??
Are there other chickens in the area?

My hen house has been full of night crows for the last week. Our weather has warmed and I have some young roos that are starting to mature. I have a neighbor who used to have chickens, his roos and my roos used to crow back and forth to each other. After all, the roos' crow is about establishing his territory.

Since the seasons are starting to change here, we have mockingbirds coming in. I usually have 4 or 5 nesting pairs around my yard. They sing at night. It's been warm enough to have the windows open 24/7, so I heard one singing his little heart out this morning about 3am. He was going through his whole repertoire. LOL Very pretty!!! ........and then in the background came the crows from the hen house. Interesting 'music' to fall asleep to.

I live in an old house so it's not so sound proof. If I get up at say 3 AM to go to the washroom which is the closest room to our coop, my roo wakes up and starts crowing his little head off. Could you be waking or walking around late at night and doing the same thing to yours?
