My Rosecomb rooster, Octavian, just got over an anemia episode. He seems all right now (he's perky and alert and is now crowing a little more), but his eye is still funky. I haven't noticed any problems with it before he had anemia, but now it is swollen and puffy. It seems to irritate him constantly. I need to get him fixed up before this poultry show the first week of August. Any help would be great!

I'm sorry no one answered you post.

How is he doing?
What caused the anemia - how did you treat?

It looks like he has facial swelling on both sides (one side more than the other) what treatments have you tried?
Some common causes are respiratory disease, infection from debris/injury and ammonia (poor ventilation).

Seeking vet care to determine the cause, especially if you are showing birds is always best. General eye care is to flush the eye with saline and apply an ophthalmic ointment.

Thank you for responding!

Mites caused the anemia. We dusted and sprayed his coop (right now he only lives with one other hen, who was not infested like he was. I'm trying to get her some friends soon). We also fed him iron- rich foods, like scrambled eggs and pumpkin seeds.

I haven't treated his eye yet, as I was hoping it was just related to his anemia and would go away on its own. But it has been a few weeks and his quality of life is fine, but he seems depressed. He doesn't crow almost at all and he never mounts the hen he lives with (which I guess is good for her).

I wouldn't think they eye issue is related to the Anemia. Having him checked out is a good idea.

He is still pale, add some poultry vitamins to his water for a couple of days and offer him extra protein. A small amount of Beef Liver would be good too.
