Hi all. It's been a while.

My roo flock did great over the winter, but come spring they all turned on each other (most likely randy). I tossed them out and let them free range. They still managed to kill each other. Only had 4 out of 15 by the end of the summer. This winter I won't have a separate roo flock. There's enough girls that the 5 I have are doing really well. 3 in with 13 girls and two in with about 25 (they're separated by breed).

Here’s the bigger pic of my Orpington Lance! Those are standard size hen boxes, but I’ve taken the separators out so the coop is a open plan with one side solid floor and the rest roosting bars over a large removable drawer.
I think the coop might be larger than 3’x3’, I need to measure it again!

Lance (Lavender Orpington) is larger than Andy (Astralorp), just a tad farther away in the pics

Hey, I have a question for everyone! (Might’ve been asked before, of course!)

How did you choose the names for your roosters ?

We adore a British tv series called The Detectorists, and the two main characters are Lance and Andy!

My chickens have a pretty random assortment of names. My current roos are Chester, Griffin, Cheeto, Mico, Eclipse, Lupin, Horus, Domino (he's a dominique), and Belial. Some are named after book or tv characters, like my two late roos Huckleberry and Finny.

That's horrible. I'm so sorry for your losses.
What breeds are your roosters? Are they related? That's weird that the whole flock would turn on each other. Usually it's only a couple roosters.
Temperament is partly genetic, so make sure not to breed the most aggressive ones if you can.

Yup. They were all Buckeyes. And yeah, I definitely did not use them for breeding.

Great assortment of names!
Are your guys all different breeds/colors, or are they similar? I especially like Cheeto and the god’s names. One of our Silkies was named Grimm when we thought they were cockerels.

All different breeds and mixes. Most of them are rescues from people who didn't want them for whatever reason.
That's a good name for a silkie. I had a very small, angry-looking rooster named Ares.

Ahh, the Up/Down Duplex!
This pic is from a couple of days ago; right now everyone’s asleep, or at least cuddled up in their shelters safe and warm away from the cold and snow and freezing rain!

we got a bit of snow here too; I have two Roos who’re sharing an up/down duplex inside an old raised-beds garden. The coop and run are screwed securely down to a solid wooden deck, but the garden has just deer fencing and no top netting except over a dog kennel to make a safe space for the newer Roo.. our birds are Orpington and Astralorp, hopefully too big to be prey for the hawks in our neighborhood.

The chair is a favorite perch for my Orp in other weather, and the weed hanging over the line swings in a breeze and gives him something interesting to investigate. Once he comes down into the yard again I will put gobs of peanut butter or suet with seeds mixed in on the ends of the branches.
The tripod holds a cabbage-on-a-rope, but nobody’s interested in it yet.
