Rooster has an injured leg

I would probably see better with a regular picture straight on.
Here is a picture of his legs. He isn’t doing well today. His leg seems worse and swollen today. And to make my chicken life more fun, one of my other roosters has gone missing

So newest update on James the Chicken....
His comb has started to turn a dark purple, blackish color around the tips. And his limp is still there. His appetite has not decreased at all (in fact, for the first time he has had some fresh yummies...he normally looks at me like “ yeah, right lady....I’ll stick to feed and scratch).

Anyway, his poo is normal. His spunkiness is normal. He doesn’t seem to be bothered by anything other than the leg and I can’t actually find a sensitive spot.

I am worried about aspirin now...doesn’t it affect heart and liver function....and I read that can cause a blackening comb. I read several older threads but none really matched James except one from 2009 but it didn’t give any real advice or suggestions on what it could be.

I’ve done some Epsom soaks and he seems to do just a little better after them (or he is just anxious to get away).

I cannot see any swelling or abnormality in the picture. But it may be easier to see it in person. Sorry that he is worse. Make sure that he can reach his food and water by placing it cloe to him. Chicken slings can really be helpful to get them upright and in front of food and water, plus get them up and out of their droppings. See post 5 here for chicken sling pictures:

I've used baby aspirin for chickens for years and never noted the chickens having any bad side effects from it. But if you think it is not helping..by all means stop. I dont know..can you talk to a vet? Also..you might try the chicken doctor...www.firststatevetsupply.com. he charges a small fee for a consult. Hes not a vet but is a poultry expert.

Well, I had to rush another chicken to the vet when she got hit by a car this morning. Took James along since getting to this vet is fairly time consuming....the answer: they don’t know. He doesn’t have any breaks or tears. Guess it’s just a sprain that gets worse as his big butt waddles along. They like that I made him a chicken sling/chair and want me to keep him in it to see if taking weight off the leg will help.
