Rooster has frostbite on comb and SEVERELY swollen waddle

The first photo is before draining, the second is after. We got about 3 mL out. Kind of disappointed the swelling isn't gone and he still can't hold his head up.

Did you just poke a hole in his wattles with the 20 gauge needle and squeeze the fluid out?

Some of the swelling may be on the outer tissue, so the draining may not have affected it. Some fluid left in the tissues would be desirable to protect the tissue as it heals.

He may be a bit shocky from his pain. If you have some Gatoraid, let him have some. The sugar and electrolytes will restore some of his energy, and maybe that will affect how he holds his head.

Also, offer him some chopped boiled egg. He needs energy from protein.

We tried poking and draining and we actually syringed some out. Poor guy.

Can anyone tell me how many mL of electrolytes he needs to keep hydrated?

I just use Sav-A-Chik for electrolytes..has some vitamins too.
Usually mix up a quart so they all get a bit:
1/2 tsp powder to 1 Qt water.

He can't eat or drink because of his waddles. I have to syringe him fluids.

I just leave frostbite alone...all my roosters have it. They survive.

You can syringe the SAC fluid.....have done it with a heat stroked hen.
