Hi, everyone! Looking for some ideas for our rooster, who was an unfortunate victim of a raccoon attack. One eye is still swollen shut, and we're not sure if that eye will come back or how well he can see out of the good eye. We're keeping his wounds clean and keeping him inside for now, and he seems to be doing quite well except for his depth perception. He is drinking plenty but can't seem to adjust to trying to eat with only one eye. He is a stubborn guy and doesn't want me to hand feed him. We're on day 4...do any of you have experience with helping a rooster adjust to eating on his own with only one eye?

Hi. Sorry about your rooster. We have had a couple chickens that have been blinded in one eye that ended up doing fine.
Have you tried a deeper dish? (What type of dish does he have now?) Maybe make a wet mash to encourage him to eat?
Hope he recovers quickly.

I have heard that chickens love eggs and that it is great for chickens. I am not too sure if it would work, but it would be important for your rooster to eat...so maybe try that?

Thank you! I've tried scrambled eggs, but he doesn't seem interested. I think he's a little stressed from being separated from the ladies. We let him hang out with them for a while and he tried eating but can't figure out how to get the food off the ground. I will keep trying different dishes...I guess the key is figuring out a dish and a food he can see pretty well.
