My rooster got into a fight with another rooster I have thru a dog kennel. There was enough of a gap between the door and the kennel for my serama boy to stick his head in there and beat the other one up pretty bad. Bleu my mutt bantam roo must have bashed his head against the metal pole holding up the kennel it seems to have detatched his upper beak right from under his comb. The roof of his mouth is still in tact but his beak is just resting on top. It looks really bad

This just happened a little while ago. I know the beak won't grow back and I am afraid he won't be able to eat. What can I do for him. I have no super glue here and things are starting to dry out at the injury sight! I have cleaned him up the best I could and managed to stop the bleeding. I have him seperated from everyone in a rubbermaid tote in the house. I saw him try to drink water but am unsure if he had gotten any down. These boys got along great before but recently the injured roo had to spend a week at a friends house with his girls while some things were going on here. I just brought him and the girls home today and had him in the kennel so he could adjust to the flock again. I thought I was protecting him

Is it possible for him to survive with not even a sliver of a top beak left? Will the roof of his mouith shrivel up and fall off as well? I have no idea what to do for him

I have heard of chickens with injuries similar but usually leaves a bit of top beak there to eat with. Bleu's cracked off above the nostrils, right where the comb meets the top beak, I think his comb may have been pulled back and torn right there as well. It truely looks really bad :'( He seems to be in pain and is crying and thrashing in his cage

Do what your instincts tell you to do for him? Can it or will it hurt him? Chances are whatever you do will not make it any worse. I am so sorry. Wish I could help. Just do the best you can.

I am tooo afraid to superglue it back on since it has been detatched and just resting on top there it will eventually fall off. I am gonna wait it out and see how he is tomorrow. Right now it feels a little overwhelming

My gut instinct was to cull as soon as I saw how bad it really was. However this is my DH favorite boy and he does the culling here. He refuses to give up on him yet.

Thanks Heritage birds I sure hope so too. He is resting comfortably on a roost right next to one of his favorite girls. He was going crazy by himself.

I hope you don't use super glue on him!!!!! That would probably burn !!! I have a green-cheek conure (small parrot) that got his top beak bitten off to the nares (nostrils) by another parrot several years ago and he is doing great! He can't crack seeds open or eat solid apple pieces anymore but what I do is soak a type of pellet feed in warm water and he just scoops it up w/ his bottom beak. I give him appleSAUCE for a treat or mashed up banana and even chop up sunflower seeds like a fine powder and sprinkle on his food! You can help him survive! I even have to trim Alberts bottom beak every so often because it grows out long like a fingernail. So, your roo will probably be OK but he'll just have "special needs" My vet said she also had a chicken that lost it's top beak and she had to hand-feed it 2X a day for a few years!. At least it can drink up some water and scoop up food w/ it's bottom beak!

Just wondering....my conure didn't even bleed that much and I was surprised not to see any blood in the cage. Did your roo bleed very much?

A few weeks ago one of my roos also found a spot to fight w/ another roo through a fence and when I got home his neck feathers were covered w/ blood from his comb bleeding down and he looked weak so he had lost ALOT of blood so when I took him to the vet, she got him cleaned up, gave him an antibiotic shot and a B-12 shot also.

Anyways, I hope he does as well as Albert. I will send pics as soon as I upload them! (So you can see that he may have a chance) Because I thought Albert was a goner at first too, (it looked SO STRANGE at first, but I got used to it!)
