Rooster is turning purple.

I have a neighbor who has a rooster and it's feathers over the last week are turning purple. I think the bird is "older" at least 4 or 5 if not older. She has been going through a lot personally and doesn't care for him like she used to he's basically free range. I'm concerned about this bird because he's basically picked us as his new family. Anyone have any ideas what's going on. I've noticed his poop has been a very dark plum/purple and it appeared water/slimy. There are no berry bushes around with fruit on them.

It's something he is eating, maybe fallen plums or berries, or some other type of fruit. He looks perfectly healthy otherwise.

Looks like food dye, if not juice, like beet juice.

What are the small red bits on his chest? Can you get those off and place them on a piece of white paper. Look him over for wounds or scrapes. Just make sure that it isn’t blood.

Thank you everyone. Unfortunately I have not seen him since taking the pictures. so not sure if she's keeping him in her house or if he died . I appreciate everyone's thoughts!
