Our flock is about a little over a year old now. Our rooster has been loosing some tail feathers but at a seemingly natural pace. Today, we noticed he kept falling asleep while standing in place, shaking himself awake, then falling back asleep. This continued until I picked him up and let him sleep in my lap. He's been dozing off for longer periods, sometimes even sleeping on his belly. He was capable of running away when I approached him and reached for him (as he usually does because he takes being held as undignified.) so he's not lethargic or sluggish. Is he sick, or did he just have a late night? Not particularly urgent, but my mom insisted that I ask my "chicken form" for answers.

does he have any external parasites? They do this sometimes when they have mites.

we checked for mites but found nothing. is it possible he's molting? considering the feather loss, and some people have said that molting can make chickens tired.

It does sound like he may be molting. They tend to be less active and do a lot of sitting around. Pictures might help. Offer him some scrambled egg or tuna, just a bit to add to his usual feed.
