You can check for gapeworms by gently swabbing his throat with a q-tip. If it comes out with a bit of blood or actual little worms on it, you will have a positive diagnosis.

If he is actually fine and dandy, maybe he would sire non-crowing roosters. You could make a fortune selling those.
