rooster not normal!!

Hi
My rooster Baby, the one that was sick. I posted about him on the thread slow rooster, maybe depressed.
He seems to choke a lot after he eats he holds his mouth open, and breaths heavy.
I really worry about him. He is a lot better now that hes with the hen, but still not like a normal rooster. Yesterday the other rooster was out with him, and I found my poor rooster Baby hiding under the back steps.

I am giving him some left over Baytril, that I used for a sick hen a while back.

I could really use some help.

What about gapeworm? This sounds like the symptoms. Read up on it, look in the mouth for skinny red worms way back in the throat.

My first thought was gapeworm as well, with the choking and holding his mouth open. I recommend you look down his throat using a flashlight (2 person job) and see if there any obstructions. If not, get a Q-tip and stick it one inch down his throat and gently swab it, then remove the Q-tip. If you see a "Y" shaped red in color worm on the Q-tip, he has gapeworms. If that's the case, you can treat him (and the rest of your flock) with safeguard liquid goat wormer or valbazen.

I looked in his troat, but it looks very clear. i dident see anything.
I did notice, on his neck he has mites, I think.
there little black bugs.

could this make him act the way he is?

Gapeworms can get up to 1/4" long. Your problem is mites. I recommend you use sevin dust and thoroughly dust him. I also recommend you dust your other chickens and in 10 days redust your rooster and the others as well. Redusting will kill nits hatched after the first dusting. You will need to dust inside their house, nests and roosts. Redust again in 10 days.

So do you think the mites would cause him to feel down and droopy, and just not normal?
also, how do you dust the coop? do you have to do the walls? and do I need to get new hay?

weird question, but should I dust my manure pile, just because I dump all the old stuff there?
