Rooster not protecting hens from Muscovy Drake

That’s good to know! I saw online that the Rooster would protect the hens but our drake sure is getting big! 😂 there is so much information out there you can’t trust everything in the internet, I’m glad I joined this page for more accurate information!!!
All good, we all started somewhere, and if we can help you avoid the troubles we’ve all experienced, we would love to! Haha.
Very occasionally you’ll get an individual that doesn’t act anything like you expect them to. I have one drake (a very shy runner) that clumsily attempted to mate with my older duck hen, once, and when she bobbed her head at him and quacked all flirtatiously as he climbed aboard, he panicked, fell off, and never tried again. He also runs from the chickens. He’s probably the only one I could leave alone with them for any length of time. 🤣

While a “rooster” may protect your “hens”, you don’t have either yet. A rooster is a mature male chicken, over a year old. What you have is a cockerel. He isn’t ready to protect anyone yet. Even if he were old enough to do so, would you want birds fighting all the time?

Your hens are still pullets - under a year old. It just helps to better understand the age ranges of your birds.
