Hi everyone! I’m a new silkie owner and was curious if you could help me out on whether or not my baby is a hen or rooster ... when I bought her I was told she was most likely a hen but I got her so young they were unable to give me a definite answer.... recently she started making so interested noises not a full cock a doodle doo more like a frog noise... she is 4 months old. I also have some 6 weeks old silkie chicks she will peck at them every now and then but at night she lets them cuddle right up under her and will come to me when I call her and sleep in my arms ... would a rooster do something like that?

Could you get a better picture of the comb, with the crest pulled back? I can't see it well enough.
The body looks like a pullet's body frame to me, but I want to be sure.

Do any of these photos help?

That's a Cockerel! Beautiful bird you have, btw. :)

Cockerel
Comb is much too big to be a pullet and his crest has started to slant back in the hackle feathers he will develop from is crest, neck, and tail. Note he also has very large feet and legs which also indicate him being a rooster. Silkies are particularly hard to sex, but I think it's safe to say you have a cockerel. Very pretty feathers and sounds like a sweet boy. And yes often times when roosters are young they will be very dependent on the person who raised them.
