I have 7 chickens. One I thought was a rooster, but today I got 7 eggs instead of the norm 5/6. I have 3 barred rocks, two isa browns and two easter eggers, both straight run, one we thought for sure was a rooster....until the seventh egg appeared today. Of the two easter eggers, the one we believed a rooster is smaller, smaller than her and smaller than the rest of the flock. Its tail feathers are more prominent as well as the coloring. Another startling thing is someone is laying white eggs. We were getting 5 brown and one purple. Now the usual is 5 brown and one white. Today we got six brown and one white. My chickies are 16 mths as of friday 4/13. Here is a pic of the one we thought was a rooster. Its smaller then all the others, had a huge comb compared to the otheres and bigger tail feathers. Is it a hen or is it possiably one of my girls is laying two eggs? This pic doesn't show all the coloring at its neck, something the other of its breed doesnt have. Can anyone tell me? I can take more pics if needed.

The bird you pictured is a female. She is a Light-Brown Leghorn, who I suspect is laying your white eggs. It is normal for Leghorns to have large combs and wattles, which can make them appear to be roosters even when they are hens.

She looks very much like one of my brown leghorns. She is a very good layer. They lay white eggs!

uh I really thought Crowley was a rooster. I wanted him to be. Im sad he/she isnt but also okay with it.

Don't be sad! Someone out there has too many cockerels and would LOVE to rehome one instead of sending him to freezer camp. And now you have the advantage of being able to choose just the right breed - and have a better chance of a friendly roo. Your rooster is out there waiting for you - just ask around!

Yes a brown leghorn pullet! I have 4.....They look just like yours and lay white eggs. A LOT of eggs. White ear lobes=white eggs. This is them last summer about the age of yours.

Thank you so much ladies!! I'm happy to know for sure. He was supposed to be an Easter Egger or She rather. Never had a leghorn before though so thats cool! Its not like having all girls is a big issue either, just means more eggs and the idea of being able to take in someone's extra roo so he stays safe is great. Thanks so much!
