My chicks aren't quite 3 weeks old and I see my rooster and one of my pullets "battling", is this playful or one trying to dominate the other? I'm new to all this and was wondering when he knows he's a he and the rest are not? I just put them in the coop and out of the brooder (getting too big and smelly for the house!). Do you have to seperate the roo's from the pullets? I just don't want to wake to a dead chick in the morning or something.

BTW I too have a baby monitor near my coop. We have a stray cat problem on my street along with Coons and other wildlife scavengers . . . the baby monitor was just a thought so we could be awaken if something happened.

I put my 2 roosters in with my hens, they are fine. All came from the same batch of chicks. Mine are 8 weeks old and all of them are healthy and happy in their new coop & run, and have been in there now for about 3 weeks.

I will throw in my two cents.... I have 17 roos and 39 hens (despite what I put on my personel info, just found out ugggg) Anyways, they are figuring pecking order... no you should not wake up to any dead ones becuase of your roo.... Now me on the other hand.... hmmmmm yes I need to get rid of a few before the roos kill eachother. You will be fine putting your roos with hens... thats the only way to get babies if you want them.

Good luck
