Rooster? Raising Chicks?

Thanks for sharing:) that’s awesome! What breed is he? I’m not sure what EE means. Sorry! Is he a bantam? Beautiful colors!
He was sold to me as Ameraucana, but since then some people with Ameracaunas told me he is not pure, so he should be considered an Easter Egger. Whatever he is, I just love him so much, he is the sweetest boy, loves hugs & he has the cutest voice, he makes sweet sounds when I talk to him & say his name, Baby Roo or Lover Boy. He is not small, not a Bantam, he just doesn't have his tail feathers so that makes him look smaller. One of the hens goes after his long tail & he is too nice, he let's her. This is how his tail Should look, this is his "son" hatched May 2020, looks just like his Daddy Roo & is just as sweet, Valentino.

Father & son Roos
Not only do they look alike but both are just the most loving, sweet, huggable boys!
1st 3 photos, Daddy Roo, Lover Boy, has a crooked comb, when I got him as a youngster he had been pecked badly on his comb & plucked nearly bald. One of his hens still plucks his long tail out & he let's her.
The next 3 photos are his son, Valentino.

ROFL! I'm thinking that NO one but you and I, maybe one or two others, are not getting it. You have the two Silkies, and three chicks that they hatched, but they're INSISTING the roo is a hen. So, if that was the case, HOW did the one hen able to lay fertile eggs???? Biology is telling us that there IS a roo there.

OP mentioned in a previous post that she bought fertile eggs online because her girl had stopped laying and the pair were sitting “on nothing”.

Wow this has been an interesting thread to read!

I have zero experience with silkies, let alone sexing them, but what I keep wondering is exactly how long it's been since you rehomed the rooster you had before? Because if they're both hens then the old rooster must be the father, and I'm pretty sure hens can only lay fertile eggs for about 6 months after mating. You said you got rid of the other chickens "recently" but does that mean less than 6 months ago?

Sounds like the consensus is leaning towards "him" being a "her," but either way, congratulations on an adorable family! Sounds like the parents make a pretty good parenting team whatever the genders, and the chicks are adorable!

Oops, I must have missed that one. I kept seeing that the hen had been laying eggs so I assumed they were her eggs they were sitting on.

OP bought eggs online:
Once my hen went broody she stopped laying eggs all together for several weeks & was sitting on nothing so I purchased some fertile eggs online.

Now I don't feel so bad about accidently selling that lady a cockerel instead of a pullet at 14 weeks of age. Sorry!
Just to add to the fun... I had a hen that after the rooster was removed from the flock she took over the role of rooster. Mounting, guarding, tidbiting, and stopped laying eggs. She never did crow. I do believe a hen would try and crow if she was in this state.

If I can figure out how 2 add a video I’ll do so.
I believe you have to upload the video to YouTube and then use the link to your video to get it on here.
I’d love to see.

I let my silkie hen hatch four eggs and she is just the best mom ❤️ Our rooster is polish, so she has 2 polish and 2 polkie babes. They are six weeks old this weekend.

My white silkies.
I have had the rooster at the front for over a year now. He has never crowed (probably because he is waaay down the pecking order) or shows any behaviours of being a rooster. But looks just like one. He’s so sweet and docile. Total pushover lol. I hope he starts mounting ! I want chicks !
Good luck it’s so cute they are parenting together.
