I have two roosters about seven years old. The bigger, more dominant one has been just sleeping all day either standing or laying down. Crows very little. He free ranges all day with the others rooster and hens. The two roosters and some of the hens sleep inside the house but the two roosters have their own separate room. Haven't seen worms nor blood in his stool. No mites or lice. No wounds. Crop is mostly empty since he hasn't eaten much today. No running nose or sneezing. It's very warm here in Florida still. Any ideas?

Has he been molting? My rooster is less active and eats less when he is molting. I would give him some chopped egg or low salt tuna or liver, and add some poultry vitamins to his water. Poultry NutriDrench 3 ml daily by mouth is a good vitamin. My 6 1/2 year old rooster is acting similar, but he is sore in his legs.

I just started giving him liquid drench today. 1cc directly down his beak. He is not molting. Still showing no other signs of sickness. Might worm him just in case. He is inside the house sleeping on my sofa on a blanket next to his buddy

He perked up a little this morning. Haven't seen him drink or eat much so I will try giving him some sav a chick down his beak with a dropper.
After a little walking around this morning he back to sleeping standing up. He isn't even preening himself

Be sure and feel of his crop to see if it is full and hard or like a balloon. In early morning it should be empty, and if he has not been recently eating, it also would be flat.
Glad he is a little more perky.

It's empty. He is eating a little though. The liquid drench seems to be helping though he is still not his old self. It's been about four days since I noticed him sleeping all the times. He is not getting worse just better so at this point I don't think it's anything too serious otherwise he would be worse

Slowly improving. Whatever he had, the liquid drench seemed to help him pull through it

Yes, it does look like significant leg mites, and the ankle joints may be enlarged. How do the hock joints look--any swelling? Mites can be treated with weekly applications of castor oil, coconut oil, or vaseline applied and rubbed up into the scales on the legs and feet. Does he limp at all, and can you look on his breastbone for any sores?

I am glad that he seems to be improving on the vitamins. Did you get around to worming him? Do you have a local vet who would test some fresh droppings for coccidiosis and worms?
