No doubt this is a bit late, but I wanted to echo those who said to cut off the excess, then let nature take its course. Be prepared for re-entry.

He made it through the night.
I am going to move him into the basement today for some extra rest. I think they were pecking at his comb probably trying to get the string or something, so that is still bloody and I don't want to just let him in with everyone.

Here is a photo of his comb wound. I've been trying to clean it up, but it is taking quite a bit of time. He is enjoying his time in the basement. My boyfriend is not impressed to have a chicken in the basement

I had the same thing happen once.


I cut off the excess string and let him go on his merry way....


He ended up just fine.

I know with dogs unflavored petroleum jelly (Vaseline) works wonders to get things to pass. Don't know how it would work with a chicken.

Did you use Blue-Kote on the comb wound? That will help
