Rooster Went Nuts...Brutally Attacked Hen (MORE PHOTOS ADDED)

She looks so funny as she's completely bald and there's still a big gap on the top of her head...its like having a vulture walking around with 3 hens. But she's very happy and healthy now.

Before all this happened, I was looking at adding 2-3 pullets/hens to my flock so I'm back to looking at that again.

Just call her Brittany and tell everyone she had a sudden urge to shave her head!! LOL JK ...Not funny....but funny!

Well that is wonderful news!!! You did an amazing job nursing her back to health. Happy to hear she's been re-intergrated so soon. Maybe you could get a small piece of cloth and tie it on her head like "Mother Goose"! LOL Just kidding....

Yes, yes it was.

Oh, an update for today: She actually laid an egg today...her first since the attack. I was shocked as I thought she wouldn't. But her eggs are always very distinctive and the other BR laid too so it had to be hers.

She seems like she's 100% again...other than the baldness. I really hope her feathers come back at some point. She's going to get cold otherwise. Its supposedly going down into the high 20s tonight.

Just caught up with this post. Your hen should get all her feathers back. We had a chicken mauled by a coon last year that looked much worse than your girl. She healed completely and the only left over issue is that she is spoiled rotten. Dh hand fed her and for the longest time she only took food from him. Now she eats with everyone else but she still runs inside the Florida room if the door is open. I do believe she would sit on the sofa and watch tv with us if we let her.

Good luck. Looks like you did a great job.

After going through this whole thread, and seeing what you had to deal with, it makes me feel bad that I didn't give my Rosie a chance after my dogs mauled her. I am betting she would have made it... BUT this is my first year with chickens and it looked so darn bad that I just put her out of her pain and misery. Its quite amazing what a chicken can over come injury wise, and I don't think I will be so quick in the future... Great job.
