FWIW, I've NEVER seen a rooster act this way before...even in a smaller ratio like I had. It was a total shocker. I think he was just a bad seed...or maybe she just challenged him and he took it way too far.

I'm so glad she's doing well today. Hoping for a speedy recovery!!

Day 3: She's still with us. She's not really eating too much or drinking though so that's a bit concerning. She is, at least, eating a little bit. The wound is still nasty and we're keeping it clean. I brought in her best friend (our other BR) to hang out with her for a bit...that seemed to help perk her up a bit at least. Ironically, Ally reasserted her spot above the other BR in the pecking order immediately and Winnie (the other BR) is acting completely submissive to her...good to see her assert some personality at least.

I have a duck that survived an attack Sun night - probably a racoon - and she had a nasty gash on the back of her neck. Also in shock like your hen and not eating or drinking much. A BYCer recommended getting Vetericyn for the wound. It's a spray and we got it at TSC (expensive), but today she looks almost normal. Possibly she would have healed that quickly otherwise, I don't know but we are pretty amazed. Good luck.

I did not read the whole thread. Sorry. Sometimes with the absence of another rooster to fight for dominance with they will go after a dominant sister hen. I had 16 BOs. Sold 10 pullets and kept 5 and the little Roo. I had full intentions of getting rid of him and found a lady with a large flock of BO hens a year older. Before he left Roo was having constant standoffs with the BOSS hen, because the other 4 would follow her rather than him. At his new home the owner spent a month constantly saving him as he continued to mature, from her flock of hens who have done a magnificent job of teaching him how to court a lady. I think bringing in a youngster to an established flock rather than a "brother" has worked very well in this case. Sorry you had to go through this and I hope it goes better from here on.

Day 4 Recap: Well, she's been lethargic all day and she hasn't ate/drank really at all so we're pretty worried for her. I gave her a penicillin shot about an hour ago (ironically a Google search on dosage brought me right back here with a great instruction page...never done that before but it was surprisingly simple) and recleaned the wound with the above recommended Vetericyn spray. Hopefully the injection helps her out as she seems to have taken a turn for the worse today.

She's a fighter though.

Also, that brings a question I have on dosage: I found several different recommendations on dosage for Penicillin. Some said 1/2 CC and others (including the instruction page on BYC said 1/4 CC). Does anyone have experience with which one is correct? I went with 1/4 CC because I didn't want to hurt her but should I up it to 1/2 CC tomorrow?

Well, I can't help you on the shots... never gave one of my birds a shot. But when our BooBoo Chicken (the name the kids gave her) was healing in the house, she got like this because she missed her flock. Try bringing her friend back in tomorrow to see if this perks her up. It worked for mine.

Yeah, I've been doing that the last 2 days. It perks her up a little but she still won't eat. I'm hoping the penicillin helps her out overnight and she turns it around tomorrow.
