Rooster Went Nuts...Brutally Attacked Hen (MORE PHOTOS ADDED)

Pics
Ironically, we have been able to get her drinking electrolyte water with an oral syringe..and lots of patience. We managed to get a good amount of water in her with some crushed up children's aspirin in it. She's now drinking out of a bowl if we hold it for her. Also, the wound looks really really good today...far better than it did yesterday. Hopefully the water, aspirin and 2nd penicillin shot are giving her enough to fight it. Now we just have to get some real food in her. We're gonna try blended up food with an oral syringe too now...a nice corn yogurt mix I think.

She's a fighter.

I really don't want to lose this bird after all the energy we've put into her.

A liquid slurry of abit of scrambled egg mixed with buttermilk will help. Scrambled egg for extra protein to build up her strength and buttermilk as a probiotic for her immune system. You can use a large syringe without a needle to draw the slurry. Then pull her wattles down and her mouth will open. Slowly squirt a little of the slurry into her mouth and release her wattles so she can swallow the mixture on her own. Repeat at least 4-5 times a day til she can eat on her own. It's alot of work and will require patience. She has to get her strength back or you will lose her. Continue with penicillin injections as the link directs. I wish you the best.

You are doing such a good job on your hen. I hope she pulls through her injuries, and NO ONE can say you did not give her a chance!! You are a super-chick mom!!

I will try that tomorrow. I just got some yogurt in her with an oral syringe so at least she finally has food, water and electrolytes in her stomach for the first time in a couple days. The wound is definitely healing well so I just need to keep her eating.

Davian... I just remembered that we gave ours a can of baby formula for strenght when she was acting like that. I just picked up a can of Similac formula, mixed it as directed, poured some of it into a bowl, dipped her beak into it.... and she finished it all up. I gave it to her twice a day for two days until it was gone. Hope this helps... I'm praying she pulls thru!!!

Good to know...I have a can of formula from raising our new puppy that should still be good. I'll will try that first thing in the morning for her.

Well, Day 6 is over and she's still with us. She's eating a yogurt/baby formula slurry via oral syringes and lots of patience and she got her 3rd penicillin injection this afternoon. She ate a bunch of yogurt and even took a mealworm out of my hand which I took as a great sign.

Here is a pic of what she looks like 6 days in:

The white on her comb is yogurt that missed her mouth. Its hard to see the wound as its on the other side of her head and then down her neck. Its all scabbed up on her neck but still open on the top of her head.

Others are still uploading from my phone.

Here's another of her eating:
