Just today I found my Silky Roo with his left eye closed up with some crust around the eye along with very little fluid coming out and a small amount of small insects wandering around the eye. I’ve already bathed him with powder that helps fight against mites just in case they were what I saw. He’s eating and drinking normally as well. I have had someone tell me to bathe him in warm water with rosemary and wondering if that would help as well since this is a first for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

It looks a little goopy. I would use a warm wet wash cloth wrung out, and hold it over his eye for a few minutes while holding him on a towel or wrapped in a towel. Then clean the drainage out of the eye, and take a close look inside. Tell us if the eye looks okay. Then apply either Terramycin eye ointment from the feed store or use a bit of plain Neosporin triple antibiotic ointment 2-3 times daily. He might have a respiratory disease such as MG. Have you added any new birds to your flock recently?

He’s actually the new addition to the flock. I’ve also been giving him Doxycycline to prevent respiratory problems and I just bought the Neosporin ointment as I’ve been busy and will be applying it as you’ve said. So far his eyes look good but his eyelids are swollen a tad bit.

Have you had him quarantined from other chickens? Can you return him from where he came from? He can infect your other chickens with a chronic respiratory disease that could stay with them for life. Your state vet can do a necropsy and testing on him to see what he may have.
