Help! My rooster has been limping for 2 days now. He came out of his coop limping yesterday. We put him inside for the night in a large tote so he wouldn’t be jumping up and down to roost. I gave Him 1/2 of a low dose aspirin and that seemed to help a little. I cant See any Injuries anywhere. What can I do To help him?? It seems to be in the joint in his leg.

Do you have a picture of his leg with the swollen joint? Also make sure there is not a scab on his footpad that could be bumblefoot. Does he hold the sore leg up or is he putting some weight on it? It could be a sprain or an infection in the joint. Have you had any mild respiratory diseases or added any new birds recently? Do you have other roosters that might have hurt him? I would confine him to a large dog crate or pen with food and water, so that he rests the leg and is jumping from a roost for a few days to a week. If it is a sprain, it can take weeks to heal.

The joint does not look swollen, it just seems that is the part that is bothering him. I have Checked his feet and they look fine. He does put some weight on it, he runs, jumps and still tries to mate with the girls. We do have 1 other rooster. The hurt one is the submissive one, they get along good for the most part. No new chickens, or diseases. We only have 6 and they’re only 6 months old.
