I am at school and my parents just sent me this picture. He is a little over a year old and has never had a problem before. We have never had to deal with bleeding chickens before and my parents don't normally handle them. I can't be there to help but none of us really know what to do. He has been bleeding since this morning but is running around and so far they can't catch him. What can they do to help him? We think the other rooster may have gotten him since he is almost five and has huge spurs, but he has never been aggressive. We are planning to trim his spurs but don't know how. Can anyone help with what to do for chicken first aid and spur trimming?

Wait until dark when he roosts. You should be able to catch him easily. Bring him under a strong light and examine the wound to see how bad it is. Clean it up and put antibiotic cream on it (the kind without pain killer). Keep him separate. Monitor the wound to make sure that it is healing.

Do a search on Backyard Chicken for trimming rooster spurs there are several articles.
