Rooster with lots of saliva?

His crop felt puffy, it was not fully empty, I checked his crop last night and his crop was smaller this morning, so it is emptying somewhat. He does not have sour crop, his crop sorta felt doughy. I just checked his crop and it is completely empty, I took his food away last night. I only notice saliva when he is eating his his food, and when I look in his beak when he is eating there is some food in his beak still, but he eventually swallows it. It is very weird, he seems to only have a lot of saliva when he's eating.

My roosters crop is emptying fine, but I am now seeing him shake his head while he is eating. He also still has saliva. What should I do?

My rooster is acting the same, while he is eating he will shake his head vigorously, and he still has saliva. He only does this when he's eating his food, he is acting completely normal and does not act sick. I have looked in his mouth and I do not see a canker. What's wrong with him?

Is there any way you could see a vet? Could he be eating something like clover in the yard that is making him drool?
Yes, I could see a vet. I don't think we have any clover in our yard. Should I take my rooster to the vet? Do you have any idea what is wrong? I have looked up things about roosters shaking their heads but nothing about roosters shaking their heads and drooling, he's acting perfectly fine except for the drool and head shaking when he eats.

Hi , my rooster is having the exact same things as yours , what did you do and how did you fix this problem ?????

I just left him be, and monitored him, I believe. I don’t really know why he was getting the saliva and it was only while eating. The problem never really went away.
He was older, and his neck position was weird and crooked as he aged so that may have been a reason.
Unfortunately he passed last year in June, from old age.

I hope your boy ends up okay! How old is he? What does he eat? What is the form of the feed he eats?

He’s still young then, poor guy. Hopefully he gets better. :hugs

When he gets the saliva, does he seem to have trouble breathing and eating? Does it bother him at all?
How is he acting over all?
If possible, take a look into his mouth and look for any yellow patches, and smell for any foul odor.
Is his face swollen at all? Any bubbles in the eyes? Sneezing? Runny nose?

Vitamin D is fine to give, but I would stop the calcium since I’m not sure it’ll help with his issue, and extra calcium is hard on roosters. If you can get any Poultry Cell or Nutri-Drench, those have lots of good nutrients that would benefit him.

What types of food scraps do you give him? The general recommendation of ‘treats’ chickens should have, shouldn’t be more than 10% of their diet. It does depend on what’s given though and I think it’s not as big of a deal as some make it out to be. (But again, depends on the food.)
What’s the type of food that’s his that he eats? For a rooster an all flock feed or chick starter is best. It has higher protein and doesn’t contain much calcium like layer feed, which isn’t good for roosters.

I had a big, beautiful, gentle rooster who got cancer in his throat at 2yrs old. It was so sad. At first I removed it and he was fine for 3 months then it grew back so much faster and choked him. We were planning to let him father chicks but it couldn't be.
I hope yours' issue is trivial compared to that.
