rooster with sore feet

Noticed my rooster tonight did not come down off his roost when I got to the barn this evening which he always does. He was holding up one foot, and I know when it is cold they will but it is in the 30's tonight. So I turned him over and looked at the bottom of his feet and they have like a black area and seemed to be cracked - he did not freak when I was touching them - any idea what they are? They do not look like the pictures of bumble foot. He is he best rooster I have had so I would like to help him out - any suggestions?? I will get pics in the morning

see if you can clean the pad of the foot before taking the pics...
