Rooster with swollen ear, won't stop drinking

Update - not sure if he ingested some of the water from drinking so quickly, but he is down to about the last tablespoon of water from the quart and now his breathing is sounding somewhat congested occasionally.

Is the water passing through him and coming out as watery poop? Is it collecting in his abdomen? I think he was all wet because he was drinking excessively before he came to you for help. This might be WAY out there, but do you think he could have ingested something that pierced/perforated his crop or another area of his GI tract?

Is his earlobe always that color? It lookas like it could have favus, but I don’t think that would explain his other symptoms.

I'm thinking that most of the water is running back out of his beak. He is swallowing but I don't think much of it is getting down. I looked in his mouth again and didn't see anything, but will try again when my husband gets back in the house and can hold a light.
That's what I was afraid of :(

He may have a blockage.
When you go to trim those feathers, feel all over his body (and try to look too) for any swelling or bruising (bruising may not show up for a couple of days but it's usually greenish). I'm still wondering if he's gotten into a fight or was attacked by something.
The blood is another puzzle too, but he really has no respiratory symptoms right? Was the blood in both nostrils? Could he have been preening and got blood from one of those broken feathers?

This fella is a mystery!

Very minor noise when breathing, and not consistent. Occasional vocalizations.

My husband is still outside but I grabbed a headlamp and it does look like he has a deep obstruction of some sort. Looks like wet food, kind of an off-color yellow mass.

Good call.

Dr. Google is telling me that this may be thrush. Lovely, but if that's what it is he likely told me he was sick in plenty of time to treat it.
He smells bad, but I figured that was from all of the wet feathers.

Will look into canker. Thanks for the link.

Edited after reading: We don't see a lot of wild doves around here, but plenty of starlings.

Am going to go grab my husband out of the greenhouse, he's been out there long enough. ;)

Edited again: It is definitely one of the two (thrush or canker). Obstructive growth quite visible with a headlamp and somebody else holding the thread. Will keep doing some research to see if I can determine which it is.
Great! I'm glad you investigated more! Keep us posted.

Lost him. :(

His throat was obstructed again this AM, and he was back to not being able to eat or drink effectively. We removed quite a bit of the obstruction, but either we grabbed some tissue while we were getting it, or it was too firmly attached, but it opened a vein and he bled out. :(

Such a massive bummer.

Lessons learned - leave good enough alone. The bleach may or may not have killed enough of the fungus for him to have been able to eat and drink in a few hours, but I sure as hell killed him trying to remove enough of it for him to eat/drink.

I'm sorry for your loss :hugs
