Roosters crow!

People suggest keeping the coop as dark as possible.

Is the crowing bothering your household or a neighbor's? If someone in your home is bothered by the crowing, white noise like a sound machine or an air purifier covers the sound up well.

Ear plugs. Roosters crow. Period. There's the 'hello' crow. The 'what is that?' crow. The 'I'm gonna get you,' crow. The 'hide now' crow. The 'i'm the best thing in the coop' crow. The 'the sun is in the sky" crow. The 'the grass is growing" crow. The 'cloud is in the sky,' crow. And so forth. Roosters crow for any little thing.

You may find that you love the sound of the cockerel's crow if you don't have neighbors too nearby to worry about and you don't let them stand right under your bedroom window at sunrise. I enjoy the distinct crow of each of my roosters.

you cant control it. mine crow at 4 am in the pitch black and at 8 at night right before last light... if you think its going to be a problem i would find a new home for him now.

I'm so proud, my little roosters are starting to crow. I was standing out by the pen, listening to all the roosters around my neighborhood crow this morning. I love listening to them in the morning, It makes me smile. Then my 7 week old Buff Orp. came up with a weak 1 syllable crow."CAAWWK" That made me chuckle. Then the same aged Australorp belted out a very nice COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO. I said,"Impressive Sir", then off to work I went.

Nope, there is nothing that you can do. Roosters crow and they especially prefer to crow in the mornings. There are about 101 suggestions for mitigating it that you'll hear, but the bottom line is that there is absolutely no way to stop them.

What you can do to keep the noise down is to keep them in the coop until 0700/0800 or so. You can also insulate your coop a bit to help keep the noise down more. But noise they are going to make, regardless.
