5 weeks ago I spent $$ on 6 pure bred Wyandotte chicks, the were unsexed day olds but I would be happy if I just got 1 hen from them all... looking at the red colouring on their combs they all look like roosters to me now. Any thoughts? I have some people who are interested in buying the cockerels for breeding but I don't want to sell them away until I'm 100% certain they are cockerels and not pullets. They are 5 1/2 weeks old

Sorry it was super muddy the day these photos were taken and I was holding the chicks awkwardly to try to get the combs to face the camera without hurting them

Okay...don't panic. Wyanodottes are notoriously difficult to sex.

Rosecombs flush with activity, so simply having some pinking doesn't necessarily mean male.

It is disconcerting to see true pink/red at 5 weeks, but I don't think you have 6 males.

I think #1, 5 and 6 are likely pullets. #2, 3, 4 are likely males.

You will have to wait this one out and watch both the color and the fleshiness of that comb. Male rosecombs get fleshier and redder than the females. The females will stay fairly flat, but can pink with activity. They however shouldn't be Christmas red.

Here's hoping I'm right :D :fl

EDITED TO ADD: also, with Wyandotte lacing patterns, the males will be color blocked with color patches on the wings while the girls have the true lacing appearance. That will show in time as well.

Agree with Lady of McCamley, Wyandottes are difficult due to their Rosecombs. I'm in agreement that #1 is a pullet (paler & narrow), #2 cockerel (red & wide), #3 pullet (red but narrow), #4 pullet (red but narrow), #5 pullet (pink but narrow), #6 cockerel (pink & wide) :pop Could you repost pics at 8wks?
Thank you very much, I just assumed red means rooster because that seemed to be pretty accurate for my other breeds. I'm glad there is still hope yet!

UPDATE: the chicks are now 8 weeks old. I'm starting to see a difference in some, I still have no idea though
