We have one of those!

When we bought this house 10 years ago, there were some white climbing roses that had been cut down to the ground in late August (!) in 100 degree weather...we never knew they were thre until the following spring, but they are taller than the house now, and it's a 1 1/2 story 100 year old bungalow-ish. They drape right over the top. The flowers are a small double bloom with a huge yellow center, grow in a huge bouquet, and are so fragrant you can smell them down the block. They don't last, but obscure the greenery when they bloom, they're so prolific. The scent is like spice and honey- just amazing.

The canes are as big around as my thumb, and I hack the heck out of it every year. It puts out new canes each year that will grow 30' in a season, easily. I have no idea what it is, but I adore it and root it for others often.

Love roses! However, with 2 acres to water and care for - I've down-sized considerably. Absolute best roses for bloom and hardiness:

1. Cramoisi Superieur Climber - this poor plant was neglected for years by my studio in the backyard and has always been the first and last to bloom and consistent! - nice scent - beautiful clear red color and is huge and about 15 feet long. http://www.chambleeroses.com/order.php?id=62

2
. Katy Road Pink - another neglected rose that is profuse in the spring. http://www.antiqueroseemporium.com/rose-2214.html - mine looks better than their's!

3. The only newer "hybrid" that has survived the extreme temps of North Texas and my too few hours to garden: Hot Cocoa (floribunda's are the best hybrid to go with IMO) http://www.jacksonandperkins.com/gardening/PD/20724/

The University of Houston is in the process of installing a new rose garden in honor of my mother. I was tickled to see that Duchesse Du Brabant is in the plan

Oddly enough, I brought this rose to her attention because I liked it and it became one of her favorites too.
