Guess that is not too bad for my first show. I knew that cockerel that I sent you was going to be a good bird. I think that as these other two will turn out and look just like him. Course they came from the same breeder pen. I am going go to Hutch next month, and show everybody again. I have them all in training pens now, and hope they look a little better, and in a lot better condition.

We will not make Hutch, I have breeder pens set that I need for the fall, Gene wanted me to make hutch but breeding for Nov. and Dec is more importatnat to me right now for teh big shows here. I should have some columbian and birchen pullets for both months and shows so long as hatching keeps up at this rate.

I would have thought for sure that Carah, Jim, Ken or someone would have brought you into the crowd.. I appologize for not making it I have been absolutely going crazy lately with a changing work schedule and everything going on around here I have been beat but it's getting easier.

Don't worry about it, I did talk to some, but mainly people that I knew from up in this area. I did what I set out to do, and that was make my first show. I watched, compared, and made mental notes as what I needed to do to improve. I spoke with an older gentleman from Fayettville. He had rosecombs, his pullet took first, not sure who took second. But, he did like my birds. Thought the cockerels were still young, but looked good.

Have a few Columbian, and a good number of Birchen.. Only pullets will be right of each each for color right now and males will be a mess in this generation but the process has begun..

Thats good, I always prefer feedback from my competitors as they are often more open and the judge has his hands full, placing is nice but it's really just one mans opinion made by comparison in 15 seconds when you are the one who has to live with the birds. And they do not always show as well as other times.

I had a BB/red, cock that was an F1. He was really pretty. His comb was not right, was really large, and looked odd. But, he was really colored nice. In fact, I place a rosecomb cock in with some of my best BB/red hens.Cooper, and Lail hens, just to play.

It is well worth the effort I think.. getting some more color in the breed is a good goal.. I know the males hackle and saddle will be weak in color and diluted this pass but will make for a usefull breeders to make good F2 birds. It's a numbers game in color development I like to shoot for 8-900 F2s and keep the best 12-16 birds 3-4 cockrells and remaining pullets only the best the F1's numbers are not as important. The nice part Rosecombs are a recessive extended black, would have been easier to make Brown Red then Birchen based on the red hackle covereed by the black but I will get both in the F2 this way.

I have a very nice Lail male if you ever need to use him.. based on a few features I really like may use him with the BB red Rosecomb hens.. but am undecided as of yet but fall will tell. I got the BB for teh columbian and have wheaton coming this fall for a female line columbian. I love the breeding chalenges of teh colors..
