we have a pair of Rouen ducks, male and female. At night they sleep in a stall so the coyotes don’t get them. This mornin when they were let out, the Male couldn’t bear weight on one of the legs. I’m going to investigate - he’s not used to being handled. I can catch him because he’s on one leg right now, however. Should I run my fingers up and down the hurt leg to see if it’s a cut? How will I know if it’s broken? Should a vet see him or should I try and angle on my own? Thanks in advance!

Ok!! Thank you so much!! Goin now to catch him.
Here are some pics I got of him already without catching him. Uploaded a video - please let me know if you can’t see it!

Should I confine him? Or not yet?

From what I can see it looks like he is holding it out to the side. It may be broken since he won’t put any weight on it. I would separate him to where he can still see the female but can’t get to her. This will make it easier to catch him and monitor his food and water intake and he won’t be trying to mate with the female which can hurt his leg further. I can’t tell you anything for sure until you tell me what his leg feels like and how he reacts to pressure being put on his toes. And if you can once you get him into confinement take a video of his leg more up close please.
