Rouen Duck thread

Pics
I believe they are 17 weeks and 2 days.  Just within the last couple days, having so many drakes is becoming somewhat of a problem....going to have to do something about that now.

Having any drakes at all can be a problem lol. Wow 17 weeks it seems your further behind mine than I thought. The good news is that you'll be getting eggs soon. What are you gonna do with our extra drakes? I'd say ship em here but I'm happy with the dynamics of my boys that I have lol

Hi ~ I got got my 1st ducks end of may. Not what I ordered ( thats a story ) I lost 1 of the 3 I got & the local Agway had 2 ducks that had no home. So I got them both. 1 is a Pekin & 1 is a Rouen . It is a female. I am amazed how fast the ducks have grown. I named her Rhodar. I am enjoying the 4 ducks very much. the older 2 of the 4 R white crested ducks ( they were suppose to be Indian runners )
Before I ask for advise , I'll read thru the thread so I won't be asking for repeat advise.
Thank you

I am new to ducks just started this May. I am surprised how fast the kiddie pool gets yucky

When I am off work I change it every day. There are a few times I do it every other day. The ducks did find my flower pond. They love it. I haven't had flowers in it for a few yrs. just polywogs & alge

the shrubs & plants have really grown now. I need to clean it out. But that pond I will not do every day or even wkly. I am looking for a small pool filter to use in it & hope that works.

I am new to ducks & yes You got it right. Holy moly do they poo.

DH asked if I really needed to change the pools every day & I said yes, but on days I work it's an every other day.
I have read on a chicken group on FB this lady uses sand. she says it cleans the feet better & she found it less costly. Right now I use hay or shavings for ducks & chickens. The ducks do have their own house. an old log cabin dog house

I am feeding the ducks layer pellets now ( they are off the starter/ grower feed that was recommended for ducks in the beginning,) as I have a ton of chickens.
I have given the peas. I feed them lettuce/ spinach / bread when they are in their pool. what else can I feed the ducks ? I tried a tomato yesterday & they were not impressed.

Congrats on your ducks. Yes the kiddie pool gets nasty real quick. I have 16 ducks and 3 geese so far. I have 10 more ducklings coming in September so I know all bout the poo messes lol. I'm not sure how the sand works with ducks but I know it works well with chickens. Ducks poo is a lot more watery than chickens is so whether the sand works with them I have no clue. Don't feed them bread it can swell up in their throats and kill them. My ducks love mealworms but Here's a list of all the duck treats. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/242460/the-ultimate-list-of-duck-treats-and-supplements

lol...on the any drakes at all. I'm excited to get my first duck egg! I don't know what I'll do with the extra drakes. I may have a drake pen, but will probably sadly get rid of them. I might put them on craigslist and put "will trade" in there somewhere just so I can laugh at all the offers of faded or paintless garden gnomes, broken wheelbarrows, leaves, etc....lol.

Beautiful pictures! Mine Ducks never came back, I love seeing your pics. I am hatching Rouen ducks eggs.
Thank you! Sorry to hear that about your ducks! Awesome you are hatching some Rouen eggs! I basically just had two failed hatches with my homemade bator on chicken eggs....gotta get it ironed out for hatching ducks out!!! Yeah, I don't know what the answer is???....I showed my ducks a lot of scary movies when they were young so they'd stay close, but that made them too scared to do anything...haha....jk!
