I use diatomaceous earth for my flock it is a slow dewormer. I let my whole flock eat it. It is a gray powder. I highly recommend it. Sorry for your troubles.

DE will not treat internal parasites. A myth that will not die. Have you ever confirmed a worm load with a fecal test and then confirmed they are gone after 'treating' with DE?
For many of us that live in environments that have heavy worm loads, we have learned personally, sometimes the hard way with sick or dead birds, that it does. not. work.

My local feed store recommended Backyard Chicken Zyfender - all natural. Said they’re not allowed to sell deworming chemicals for chickens. Thoughts?

Zyfend A is useless. Go back to the feed store and buy Safeguard liquid goat wormer 125ml bottle, and use it to worm your birds.

Get that fecal done, and then Fenbendazole is the way to go. Depending on the fecal results, you will be treating them for one day, three days, or five days in a row, and repeating.

The fecal will show large roundworm eggs, possibly other types of poultry worm eggs. The Safeguard liquid goat wormer (fenbendazole ) will take care of all of them except tapeworms. Go ahead and dose your birds, you've already seen a large roundworm in feces. Most likely your other birds have them as well.

I just heard back about the fecal float test - I took poop from two girls, one with very watery poop. They found NO worms or eggs. Should I still treat with Safeguard? Is it safe to give them while they are molting?

Two of my girls seem ‘off’ - my one girl with a very large comb, her comb looks smaller (could that be molting?). And my gold Wyandotte with the very water poop is eating but seems sluggish to me. None of them are coughing, sneezing or showing any other signs of illness. No discharge from their noses or eyes, but some of their butt feathers are dirty from loose poop.

So if you are positive that you say a roundworm in that poo sample, just treat for rounds. Maybe a light infection, or only a few birds affected. Good!
Run another fecal later too, as in a month or three.

Every poo sample won't have every parasite egg in it, especially if it's a light infection.
