SHE WILL NOT BE FOR SALE AFTER 12/31 UNTIL NEXT SPRING WHEN HER PRICE WILL GO UP AS SHE WILL BE A YEAR OLD
************************************************************************************************************************************************************
This huge, healthy and spoiled young lady was born 4/26/12, at least three weeks early this year. We had a bizarre-weather spring and it threw our breeding season out of whack! So all we got was this one girl in the end, but boy is she one hefty and healthy only child! :) She's ready to go to a new home now. She is a Royal Mute (like her dad, Samson) and was pinioned by a waterfowl vet who is very well-known in our Cleveland/Akron, Ohio area. She has been DNA-sexed and comes with certificate of proof from the lab. A small pond is ok and ours have always lived outside through our harsh winters with no problems, but this baby must go to a proven good home with protection from predators!! We are happy to mentor/advise/help in any way to keep her happy and healthy. Her body is big, but she still has a baby brain which is why protection from predators is so important. Check out comparative prices online for the larger hatcheries......and thanks for looking!!

NOTE: if you are looking for an unrelated pair or a second female companion to go along with this youngster, I can assist you with that as well!

Please remember that her coloration is like this as she is still young and feathers are changing over. The Royals usually become completely white by January each year.

Thank you!! I of course am biased, but every year when we see pix of other juvie mutes born at the same time as ours, they honestly never look as robust as our babies! We were told when we got our parent pair that especially the male, Samson, was from an exceptional line with regards to health and longevity. It's 8 years now, and so far we've been totally blessed with that regard. These guys seem to actually like staying out in the worst of the weather, giving me heart attacks when it's zero degrees out there and they don't move for hours huddled in balls on the ice! My understanding is that they do go into a kind of semi-hibernation state. They have never, however, seemed to want to get out of it though and I tend to think it keeps them heartier than being overprotective with them would. Whether it's my philosophy or their genes, who knows!! It's working, they're healthy and obviously happy, so we just keep doing what we're doing!

They aren't adults and/or looking to mate until close to 3 years old, which is why the price for adults is so much higher. This girl posted is considered to be a juvenile (juvie) and if you search old threads for swans, you'll see way back when I posted my opinion that it's not ok to take the very little ones away from the parents early. A few of the posters on this forum about slaughtered me for that opinion, but watching their behaviors and consulting with highly respected waterfowl breeders and vets just means I'm sticking by it!!

I would consider selling eggs next spring, however, as that wouldn't involve the emotional trauma at least. But even as I type this, I'm remembering a post from someone that was talking about how scared their cygnet was of going out on the pond for the first time. To me-- and again, in my humble opinion--that is so very unnatural and sad!

Please feel free to PM me if you'd like to actually talk about swans!!
Thanks!

I sure wish I had found your ad earlier this year. I had been looking for a mate for my male mute, Barry for a couple of years. I ended up buying an Australian Black Swan female just so he wouldn't be alone. They seem very happy together or I would definitely want your girl. I don't care if they produce or not, I just wanted him to not be alone, he had lost his mate 3 yrs ago. I found later that they could actually produce but the offspring would be infertile hybrids, like mules are hybrids of the horse and donkey cross.
I even found photo's of some that were grey and white mottled.

I would love to talk more about swans but I realize this is your ad space and I don't want to intrude. I hope you find the perfect home for your beautiful girl and I'd love to talk swans, please PM me.

lovely swan! what kind of housing would be appropriate for this and maybe another swan? i know that you mentioned them staying outside, but i would be afraid of coyotes, bear, etc getting at them. do you have pictures of a night time coop for swans? Also, we have a neighbor, a few miles away, that someone shot and killed their swan - so angry about that! - and would worry about that kind of thing happening.
