Hi am new to the forum, but have been reading posts for years. I have raised chickens for year, and just got a breeding pair of royal Palm Turkeys today. The Two turkeys have been together their entire life. they are just over a year old. They were kept as pets, but the owner sold them to me because there dog harassed them and the couldn't free range safely. It was get rid of the birds or the dog, the dog won. I met them at a meeting spot to pick up the turkeys. They were in a large dog kennel together. The Tom Attacked the hen while they were in transport. I figured they were stressed and that was the cause of it. The hen seemed ok. Before I removed them to transfer them to my Kennel he took another go at her and really messed her up. Two large open wounds on her head and a lot of bleeding. I ended up taking there kennel to transfer them apart from each other. I figured once they got to there coop they would be fine. I cleaned up the hens wounds and put her up on the roost with some food and water. I introduced the tom 30 min later thinking all was well. I watched them closely and all seemed well. 20 minutes later the tom was up on the roost attacking her all ready tattered head. So the question is what do I do to remedy this. The old owners say they have all ways gotten along. The hen is very sweet and lets me hold her. She does not fight back or try to get away from the tom when he attacks. I really want to make this work. I wanted to breed them so i could have fresh turkey. If I can't figure this out soon, I just bought the most expensive Turkey dinner ever, and am left with one Tattered Hen. Please help
